Mission: To serve the home-educating community by helping students write
with creativity and excellence for the glory of God.
hello, my name is amy...
Amy Tanaka is a Christian and her sole desire is to follow Jesus Christ wherever He may lead. Her life may seem chaotic because she works as a writing instructor, piano teacher, part-time bookkeeper, and full-time sister and daughter, but she believes that “to follow in His steps is something which is void of all content” (Dietrich Bonhoeffer). It matters not where life leads; it matters who is leading.
Amy graduated from Thomas Edison State University in 2011 with a BA in Communications and received the Arnold Fletcher Award for excellence in nontraditional learning. She was able to tailor her degree to accommodate her interests in creative nonfiction, persuasive research writing, and public speaking. She maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout college and studied at many institutions including Regent University, Brigham Young University, Louisiana State University. Prior to her collegiate studies, Amy was home-educated and graduated summa cum laude from high school in 2009.
Besides being a life-long learner, Amy enjoys spending time with each of her eight siblings and parents, performing works by Rachmaninoff and Bach, inventing gluten/dairy-free fusion recipes, practicing Khmer with her Cambodian friends, and reading books by R. C. Sproul, Ravi Zacharias, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
Amy desires to do everything excellently “as unto the Lord” (Colossians 3:23). She hopes that all of her writing students capture this same vision.
Soli Deo Gloria!

mission statement
To serve -- AttuneUp is people-oriented rather than profit-oriented. It is my desire to follow the example of Jesus who "came not to be served but to serve" (Matthew 20:28, ESV) which is why I have developed a scholarship program for families needing financial assistance. Home-educating community -- Although all students are welcomed, AttuneUp is specifically designed to meet the needs of the home-educating community. AttuneUp classes are taught by a homeschool graduate who desires to support other homeschooling families. Write -- AttuneUp believes all Christians are called to proclaim truth. "We are ambassadors of Christ, God making his appeal through us" (II Corinthians 5:20). The Lord has made us "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light" (1 Peter 2:9, ESV). Excellence -- AttuneUp believes that "whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men" (Colossians 3:23, ESV). I try to inspire students to write excellently -- for an Audience of One. Creativity -- AttuneUp sees God's creative hand in nature, in history, and in life. Although people cannot create ex nihilo like God can, we still reflect this attribute of God. Students are encouraged to write artistically and to use the imagination in all types of writing. For the Glory of God -- AttuneUp believes that "for from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever" (Romans 11:36, ESV) and that "whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God" (I Corinthians 10:31, ESV). This calling should not only affect what we do but how and why we do it. Writing is great because it is good and, should writing ever cease to be good, it will cease to be great. It is my desire that students aspire to more than the standardized expectations of the world and measure their success by how well their writing pleases God, rather than other people. |
